It sets the scene for a blockbuster quarter-final between the co-hosts and the No.5-ranked nation.

The two sides met in a friendly on the eve of the tournament with Mary Fowler’s strike giving the Matildas a 1-0 victory.

The match will be played at Brisbane Stadium on Saturday evening, kicking off at 5pm AEST with all the action live and free on Seven and 7plus.

While the Matildas have found their mojo with back-to-back victories over Canada and Denmark, France will be another step up after their ruthless performance against Morocco at Hindmarsh Stadium.

They scored three times in eight devastating minutes to effectively seal their passage into the last eight inside 23 minutes.

Kadidiatou Diani opened the scoring with a classy header from close range after a brilliant cross by Sakina Karchaoui in the 15th minute.

Five minutes later, Kenza Dali smashed a cracking shot into the corner before Eugénie Le Sommer added another three minutes later with a well-taken strike.

France continued to push, but had to settle for a three-goal lead at half-time.

To Morocco’s credit, they started the second half brightly and created a few chances.

But there was only ever going to be one winner and Le Sommer rounded off the scoring with a free header at the back post after a superb cross by Vicki Bècho.

While Morocco were outclassed on the night, they lost no fans for their incredible achievement in making the knockout stages.

Ranked No.72 in the world and given no hope of progressing after their 6-0 loss to Germany in the first group game, the African nation posted back-to-back 1-0 wins over South Korea and Colombia to become one of the fairytale storylines of the tournament.
