Footage has emerged of Spain women’s football coach Jorge Vilda appearing to touch a female staff member on the breast during the FIFA Women’s World Cup final against England.

The incident occurred moments after Spain captain Olga Carmona scored the final’s only goal in the 29th minute.

Replays showed Vilda celebrating and embracing with male and female support staff on the sidelines when the goal went through.

The world feed broadcast coverage showed Vilda’s embrace with the staff, but cut away just before his arm appeared to move from around the female’s shoulder and onto her chest.

In footage that has since emerged, though, Vilda can be seen appearing to hold his left hand on the female’s right breast for an extended moment before releasing his grip.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, has been viewed by over seven million people, many of whom have condemned the under-fire Spain coach.

It comes little more than 12 months after reports of disharmony between Vilda and his players had dogged the footballing giant.

Spain had just lost the quarter-final of the UEFA Women’s Euros 2022, ironically to England, when 15 players walked out on Vilda’s team, only three of whom returned to the team thereafter.

On the same night, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, drew the ire of the world for planting a widely condemned kiss on the lips of Spain’s all-time leading scorer, Jenni Hermoso, during Spain’s medal presentation.

Hermoso and Rubiales embraced in a tight hug on the dais as the Spain players were coming up to collect their medals after beating England 1-0, but it seemingly went a step too far when the 45-year-old kissed the star player directly on the lips.

Hermoso admitted in a video after the game that she “didn’t like it”, and Rubiales has since issued a public apology, in which he qualified that the kiss was “natural” and “normal”.

The saga then followed the team back to Spanish shores when, at the public celebration of the World Cup victory in Madrid, Athenea del Castillo can be seen raising her eyebrows with contempt at a comment of appreciation Vilda made towards Rubiales.

Aghast at the vision of Vilda touching his female staff member on the breast, fans responded in droves.

“Friendly reminder that one of the complaints made by the 15 was the inability to lock their doors at camp. If he and the president are doing things like this on camera in front of a sold out crowd, imagine what they’re not afraid to do in private,” one fan wrote.

“The fact Vilda did this in front of a sell out crowd on worldwide live tv when he was already under scrutiny is all you need to know,” another said.

Another added: “This is not okay. This is sexual assault in plain sight. It’s as gross as the actions from Luis Rubiales yesterday. I genuinely fear for those poor women in Spanish football.”

A fourth said: “He’s doing this disgusting nonsense in the open, I don’t even want to imagine what he does behind closed doors. Where are the consequences or punishments?!”
