Priceless Mary Earps reaction to penalty save in FIFA Women’s World Cup final against France

That much has always been clear to anyone watching the England goalkeeper over the 30-year-old’s decorated football career.

And it was on show in a moment of pure gold during the Lionesses’ FIFA Women’s World Cup final loss to Spain.

Staring down the barrel of a 2-0 deficit in the 69th minute of Sunday night’s clash of the European giants, Earps had to save Jennifer Hermoso’s penalty to keep her country alive in the biggest Women’s World Cup final in history.

She did just that.

The veteran keeper guessed correctly, making the perfect dive to her left and not only saving the goal, but catching the ball safely as well, refusing to let a deflection keep the ball alive.

“That is a statement from a goalkeeper if I’ve ever seen one,” Australian football champion Grace Gill said on commentary.

England still went on to lose the match, but Earps’ save kept them alive until the 90th minute and beyond, with 13 minutes added for stoppage time.

Question marks initially hung over the legality of the save, but subsequent angles proved Earps did not take her foot off the goal line until the ball was kicked.

After pulling off one of the great saves in World Cup history, Earps gave us a viral moment that will not soon be forgotten.

Celebrating her heroic feat with aggressive passion written all over her face, a simple lip read suggests she yelled “f*** off” multiple times.

It set the internet alight from fans who loved her reaction.

“Mary Earps you will always be an icon for screaming f*** off after the most beautiful penalty save of all time,” one fan said.

“My lip reading is pretty amateur but I think we might need to edit out Mary Earps’ reaction to saving that pen for the teatime news,” another wrote.

There was an almost endless list of fans piling in to add their appreciation for Earps.
